Palazzo del Carmine, an ancient building in the heart of Ortigia, boasts a history of centuries. Rich in architectural and artistic beauty, an irrefutable sign of its noble past, the palace still preserves within its walls, lounges with Arab niches, lounges with paintings, an ancient library and the charming stone-paved garden, of exclusive pertinence.
An ornamental pool has recently been added, which also serves as a small swimming pool.
The 5 bedrooms, all air-conditioned, are spread over three different floors and offer a varied choice to suit both adults and children.
The 5 bathrooms are all new and well maintained.
The lounges on the ground floor, by their very nature suitable for receiving guests, are spacious, well ventilated, cool and bright.
From every corner of the residence you can feel an ancient energy that speaks of a great history and the many illustrious people who have lived there.
Recently restored, Palazzo del Carmine now opens its doors to guests who wish to experience a historical, elegant setting and the freshness of a very comfortable and pleasant home.
The green room
The large green room overlooking the ancient Piazza del Carmine, is located on the ground floor, is large and spacious, has an independent entrance and a private bathroom. In the room there is a large four-poster bed accompanied by antique furniture and a built-in wardrobe.
The trace of a large arch in the centre of the wall evokes a clear remodelling over the centuries of this place, an irrefutable passage of many peoples, cultures and traditions.
The gilded chandelier known as 'the Loredan', made of wrought iron, was made by skilled Italian craftsmen on a model found in the Loredan palaces in Venice.
The ancient frieze fragments on the walls come from a family palace that was half destroyed by fire.
The pink living room
is located on the ground floor and overlooks the inner courtyard. Decorated with old family portraits, it is a pleasant space to take refuge from the summer heat. The presence of a comfortable sofa bed offers the possibility of further accommodation in the dwelling, with its own private bathroom and double access from the library and a secondary entrance from the inner courtyard.
The dining room
bright and elegant with its fresh Venetian linen curtains and painted ceilings embellished with two antique Murano chandeliers, overlooks the garden.
The 8 Arab niches decorating the walls are carved out of the stone, which is still alive, natural, in its crumbly patina, a sign of imperfection but with a great taste of life!
An imposing green marble table stands in the centre of the room, large and spacious enough to seat up to twelve people comfortably.
The Caltagirone room
is so named in honour of the beautiful eighteenth-century floor, hand-painted three centuries ago in the heart of Sicily, in Caltagirone.
The recently renovated 19th-century ceiling depicts the arts of music, played by the muses, in four paintings in the corners of the room, and imaginative scenes of architecture sculpted in plaster decorate the rich multicoloured border, embellished with pure gold friezes.
The room, lit by two imposing windows, is on the first floor and overlooks the garden
The Dreamer's Room
a small gem of recent construction, represents all the warmth and atmosphere of the south.
In this timeless building, the current landlady wanted to create a room with walls painted in Moorish style, evoking the proximity to North Africa.
The orange room
is decorated with a few antique prints and a beautiful Emilio Pucci scarf framed in the centre of the wall, giving a cheerful and fresh note of colour. The accommodation is on the second floor, with access via a staircase that is a little steep but worth climbing if you want to enjoy some peace!
The fish room
the most secluded, and far from the noise of the house and the city, is very bright because it has two windows that give the room a pleasant summer breeze; decorated with fish, it is a reminder of the nearby sea for the youngest guests of Palazzo del Carmine!
The Garden
The real wealth of this palace is its small, cool garden. A real privilege this mansion boasts, one of the very few gardens in Ortigia!
With its collection of palm trees and its small pool of water, this outdoor space is very pleasant and comfortable. It can easily accommodate many people and the accesses from the kitchen and dining room make it one with the house. Every corner is well furnished. The two lounges, the central table, the small lawn and the small pool give you the opportunity to choose your own corner of peace while staying in the company of the other guests of the house in comfort.
On warm summer evenings, there is often a pleasant breeze emanating the scent of jasmine...
The library
located on the ground floor, is today a very pleasant living room and represents the heart of these walls. The hundreds of volumes present and the many objects in the library are an important testimony to the historical experience of the palace, to the many illustrious people who have lived here, leaving a sign of their passage and a vital energy, intangible but still strongly present
